A senior police officer was run over by a stone-laden truck in Haryana's Nuh on Tuesday, when he went to stop illegal stone mining.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Surendra Singh Bishnoi, who had gone to investigate an instance of illegal mining in Nuh, died after being run over by a dumper driver. Search operation is underway to arrest the accused, ANI reported quoting Nuh Police.
Accused apprehended: The police has Tuesday apprehended a man in connection with the murder of the DSP.
The accused has been identified as Ikkar, who was the driver of the truck, India Today reported quoting sources. The police caught the accused after an encounter, during which Ikkar is reported to have received a gun shot.
Government statement: Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said the government has ordered to take strict actions against the accused. "We will deploy police and force in the area and no one will be spared," ANI quoted him as saying.
Government officials killed by sand mafia
November 2020: A police constable, Sonu Kumar died in Uttar Pradesh's Agra district after he was allegedly run over by a tractor-trolley of by a local mining mafia for transporting illegally-mined sand, according to officials.
September 2018: A 60-year-old forest ranger was crushed to death by a tractor ferrying illegally mined sand in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district. The deceased was identified as Subedar Singh Kushwah, a resident of Bhind district of MP.
May 2018: A Tamil Nadu Police Spaecial Brach officer was found dead at Vijayanagaram in Tirunelveli district He, along with five other officers, were attempting to catch illegal sand miners, when he was murdered.
March 2012: An IPS officer of the 2009 batch, Narendra Kumar (30), was crushed to death under a stone-laden tractor trolley of illegal mining mafia. The incident happened in broad daylight in the presence of eyewitnesses and Kumar’s team of policemen.
