Indian-American Neal Mohan is the new CEO of YouTube

YouTube has a new CEO. Indian-American Neal Mohan is now replacing Susan Wojcicki as the CEO of the video-sharing platform. Mohan has been with YouTube since 2015 serving as its Chief Product Officer. Wojcicki announced her resignation on Thursday, February 16, saying she's stepping back to start a new chapter.

Who is Neal Mohan? 

  • Neal Mohan has a shining CV and like his counterparts at several other American tech giants, he is also a graduate of Stanford University. 
  • The 49-year-old has been looking after YouTube's user experience and global trust and safety measures since 2015.
  • According to Mohan's LinkedIn profile, he started his career at Accenture as a Senior Analyst in 1996, then moved to stints in advertising firms.
  • He also worked as Corporate Strategy Manager at Microsoft. His time with Google began in 2008 as the Senior Vice President of Display and Video Ads before starting at YouTube. 
  • He also sits on the board as a director at companies like Stitch Fix and 23andMe and is also a member at Council on Foreign Relations. 

This is what Susan Wojcicki said of Mohan:

I remain convinced today, just as I was when I started nine years ago, that YouTube's best days are ahead of it," she added. "And with Neal and our incredible team of employees, you will all be in good hands.

Neal Mohan adds to the growing list of Indian-Americans leading US tech giants from Microsoft's Satya Nadella to YouTube's parent company Google's Sundar Pichai.
