Taking our loyal dogs from fetching newspapers or a cold beverage from the fridge to a whole new level, in Kottayam, Kerala, a man elevated dog training to an unexpected extreme.

"Train them to bite anyone in khaki!"

What happened

  • A surprising operation led by a State Anti-Narcotics squad, acting on a tip-off about a suspected drug dealer, late on Sunday night, September 24, became even more astonishing when the squad encountered a pack of aggressive dogs specifically trained to attack anyone daring to wear khaki clothing.
  • The individual operating under the pretense of a dog trainer was, in fact, a drug dealer, as evident from the discovery of over 17 kilograms of ganja during the search. However, the accused managed to escape as it took nine police officers some time to subdue thirteen dogs, including Pitbulls and Rottweilers.
  • "We did not anticipate such a large number of dogs or their level of aggression. Initially, we faced challenges in conducting a thorough search. Thankfully, none of our officers sustained injuries," remarked Kottayam SP K Karthick IPS, expressing his surprise. "We have also learned that he had trained his dogs to attack anyone wearing khaki attire (police)," he added.

How did he acquire this skill?

  • According to SP Karthick, the accused, identified as Robin, was a well-known dog trainer in the area, charging ₹1,000 per day for his services.

  • He also operated a dog daycare facility. He had received brief training in dog handling from a retired BSF personnel but was dismissed for inquiring about methods to make dogs attack individuals dressed in khaki, according to the police.

What next?

  • "Our ongoing investigation aims to apprehend the suspect," stated SP Karthick.

  • Presently, the police have a challenging task ahead as they have established a special investigation team to uncover the full scope of this operation.

  • As Police Captain Karthick aptly summarised, "First, we must capture the suspect and then determine whether others were also involved in this illicit activity."
