Kerala Muslim boys beaten up in Mangaluru for hanging out with Hindu female friends

In another incident of moral policing in Karnataka, three Muslim students were beaten up the at the Someshwar beach in Mangaluru on Thursday (June 1) for hanging out with Hindu girls, reported India Today.

The injured students have been admitted to a private hospital and the accused are absconding.

What happened?

Three boys and three girls were spending time together at a beach in Mangaluru when a few people approached them and started questioning them. This led to an argument and the miscreants assaulted the boys and fled the spot.

The three boys and three girls are students enrolled in a private medical college in Mangaluru and hail from Kerala.

What is the police saying?

"Today (Thursday) at around 7.20 pm, a group of friends (totally 6) were at Someshwara beach. Few people came and asked their details like name, etc and then beat up the three boys." Mangaluru  Police Commissioner Kuldeep Kumar Jain said.

Jain said that police have formed 2 teams to arrest the accused persons. "Our 112 vehicle reached the spot and shifted the victims to hospital. FIR is being registered based on the complaint. The accused are at present absconding. We have formed 2 teams to secure the accused persons," he said.

2nd such incident in Karnataka in a week

This is the second incident of moral policing that has been reported in Karnataka in one week. A boy and a girl belonging to different faiths were harassed by a group for having a meal together at a restaurant in Chikkaballapura last week.

A Hindu boy was enjoying a meal with a Muslim girl, his classmate, when a group of Muslim youths entered the establishment. They started questioning the girl. However, the girl refused didn't bow down and confronted them.

New Karnataka CM's promise on moral policing

The new Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had vowed to put an end to moral policing in the state and had asked the police officials to ensure that there is no discrimination on religious grounds."No moral policing here on, we will put an end to this," he had said.

But less than two weeks after he took oath as the CM, two such incidents have been reported in the state.
