Chopt, a popular American salad chain, is embroiled in a lawsuit following a disturbing incident where a customer claimed to have found a portion of a human finger in her salad, as reported by NYPost.
The unsettling episode occurred on April 7, 2023, at a Chopt location in Mount Kisco, New York.
Unsettling discovery
- Allison Cozzi, a resident of Connecticut and the plaintiff, alleged that while consuming her salad, she unexpectedly bit into a fragment of a human finger that had somehow been included in the dish.
- According to the lawsuit, the finger part was severed by an unidentified manager at the restaurant while chopping arugula, a leafy vegetable.
- The complaint states that during her meal, she discovered that she was "chewing on a portion of a human finger that had been mixed into and became part of the salad."
Allegations of negligence
- The lawsuit further claims that after the manager accidentally severed a piece of her finger, they sought medical attention.
- Shockingly, the lawsuit alleges that the contaminated arugula, containing the severed finger, was subsequently served to customers.
- Following the incident, the Westchester County Department of Health investigated the matter and levied a fine against the outlet, as per News12 Westchester.
- Cozzi opted not to provide additional comments due to the stress and anxiety caused by the incident, according to her lawyer.
Health impacts
- As a consequence, Cozzi reportedly suffered various health issues, including shock, panic attacks, migraines, cognitive impairment, nausea, dizziness, and neck and shoulder pain, as reported by PEOPLE.
- Cozzi's lawyer, Marc Reibman, emphasized the severity of the situation and the need for compensation.
- "The failure to supervise food preparation and service in a manner that protects the public is a blatant deviation from accepted safe practices and warrants significant compensation," he added.
However, Cozzi's lawyer noted that the complaint did not specify the exact monetary damages sought by his client.
