American-Canadian actor Matthew Perry, famous for his portrayal of the wisecracking Chandler Bing in the hit '90s sitcom Friends, passed away on October 28, Saturday, reportedly drowning in a hot tub, according to The Los Angeles Times and TMZ. He was 54.

Fans adored Perry's character Chandler Bing for his witty comebacks, neurotic tendencies, and dad jokes.

Matthew Perry's Friends co-stars, his family, and other celebs have been devastated by the passing of this brilliant actor. 

Perry's family told PEOPLE in an exclusive statement that they, "We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother. Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend." They further added, "You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love."

On Sunday, Friends co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane, and EP Kevin Bright shared a statement with Entertainment Tonight, saying, "We are shocked and deeply, deeply saddened by our beloved friend Matthew’s passing. It still seems impossible. All we can say is that we feel blessed to have had him as part of our lives."

Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, who was Matthew Perry's elementary school classmate, expressed shock over the sudden death of the actor.

Elizabeth Hurley wrote of her Serving Sara co-star, "RIP Matthew Perry. So sad to hear the news of his passing. He was an incredibly talented comedian and a lovely man x.”

Gwyneth Paltrow also expressed her grief about the passing of the actor. 

 

Friends, the American television sitcom that aired from 1994 until 2004, was based on the lives of six adults who were friends living in New York City, navigating through their friendship, relationship, and work lives. 

Perry was 24 years old when he started playing Chandler Bing on the show. The role earned him an Emmy nomination in 2002.
