North Korea has done something it has never done before: admit that its Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un suffered from a health ailment. And it has also claimed, something no other country has so far: victory over Covid-19. They have also blamed something unimaginable to the rest of the world for the Covid-19 epidemic - leaflets from South Korea.

North Korea declares victory over Covid-19: On Thursday (August 11), Kim Jong-un declared victory over Covid-19. He ordered that the maximum anti-epidemic measures imposed in the country be lifted.

He also added that North Korea must continue a "steel-strong anti-epidemic work until the end of the global health crisis", according to a report by the state news agency KCNA.

Kim Jong-un suffered from a high fever: On the other hand, Kim Jong-un's sister Kim Yo-jung told KCNA that the Supreme Leader himself suffered from a high fever, but couldn't rest as he was worried about the nation's people.

"Even though he was seriously ill with a high fever, he could not lie down for a moment thinking about the people he had to take care of until the end in the face of the anti-epidemic war," she said in remarks at a meeting on Wednesday to review the country's anti-epidemic responses," she said.

North Korea doesn't reveal much about its dictator's health. But rumours say that the overweight and cigarette-smoking Kim Jong-un is having problems with his health. One time, when he disappeared for over 2 weeks without any public appearance, it was speculated that he had fallen gravely ill.

Kim Jong-un's sister Kim Yo-jung is largely considered his successor.

North Korea blames leaflets from South for Covid: Kim Yo-jung also blamed the leaflets and balloons floated from South Korea into its borders for the Covid-19 outbreak in the country. The leaflets are often floated by South Korean NGOs to help North Korean people escape the oppressive regime and spread information about the outside world.

North Korea has so far not revealed how many people suffered from Covid-19 or how many died. Speculations put the Covid infections in North Korea in millions. Reports say no new case has been registered since July 29.
