Out-of-jail rape accused throws acid at girl in Delhi, drinks it to kill himself

A horrific incident came to light in central Delhi's Anand Parvat on Thursday, November 7, where a 54-year-old man, identified as Prem Singh, threw acid at a 17-year-old girl in front of her house, reported the Press Trust of India.

The man, who was already facing trial for a previous rape case, later consumed acid from the same bottle, leading to his death.

• According to the police, upon receiving a PCR call about the acid attack, they rushed to the scene.
• By then, both the victim and the assailant had already been taken to a hospital.
• According to a senior police officer, the assailant, Prem Singh, had an ongoing rape trial against him and he was out on bail to attend a family event.
• The ongoing trial was based on Prem Singh raping the victim's mother earlier.
• The attack was allegedly planned as a means of retaliation, said the police.

Victim said

• The victim, a minor, after being discharged with minor burn injuries, shared an account with the police.
• She informed the police that Singh had previously faced rape allegations from her mother.
• The incident unfolded at approximately 7:30 am when Singh threatened the girl, pressuring her to convince her mother to withdraw the rape case.
• Refusing to do so, the assailant threw acid at the minor, ultimately consuming it himself.

DCP (Central) Sanjay Kumar Sain said, "When the complainant refused to withdraw the case, he poured acid upon her daughter and drank some himself. Singh died during treatment while the victim was discharged after treatment."
