The Delhi High Court on Monday rejected a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking to stop the operation of SpiceJet airline.
The court cannot stay the operation of an airline on the basis of a PIL and press reports, a bench headed by Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma said while dealing with the petition by lawyer Rahul Bhardwaj, reported PTI.
The PIL: A petition was filed in the Delhi High Court seeking to stop the flight operations of air carrier SpiceJet after several incidents of technical glitches were reported on several SpiceJet flights.
The plea had also sought a commission to inquire into whether the operations of Spicejet are being properly managed.
DGCA notice: After eight incidents of technical malfunction were reported on SpiceJet aircrafts since June 19, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a show-cause notice on July 6 to the airline.
The DGCA gave SpiceJet three weeks to respond to the notice while pointing out that SpiceJet had failed to establish safe, efficient and reliable air services.
SpiceJet's response: Following the DGCA's show-cause notice, SpiceJet Chairman and MD, Ajay Singh, had told India Today that “SpiceJet is 100 per cent safe to fly".
