Sonali Phogat Death: Goa Police find drug given to TikTok influencer, arrest 5

Former TikTok star and Bigg Boss 14 contestant Sonali Phogat's death has been throwing up several twists. Initially declared a heart attack, emerging details point at a different story. Drugs, betrayal, rape, and murder, this is what Sonali Phogat's last moments are alleged to have included.

Here are the latest updates on Sonali Phogat's death:

1. So far, 5 people have been arrested in the death of Sonali Phogat- 

1. Curlies restaurant owner Edwin Nunes; 
   
2. Drug peddler Dattaprasad Gaonkar;
3. Drug peddler Ramdas alias Ram Mandrekar; 
4. Phogat's PA Sudhir Sangwan, and 
5. Sangwan's friend Sukhwinder Singh.

2. Goa Police have registered two separate cases in Sonali Phogat's death.

• In the murder case, Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh have been booked and remanded to 10 days in police custody.
• In the narcotics case, the other three have been booked and sent to 3 days' police custody.

3. Goa CM Pramod Sawant said that the case will be handed over to the CBI if required.

4. Goa Police revealed that Sonali Phogat was forcefully made to drink a concoction containing methamphetamine or meth. Remnants of the drug were also found in Curlies's washroom. Methamphetamine is a central nervous system stimulant that is used as a recreational drug, and also for ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and obesity treatment.

5. In the CCTV footage going viral, it can be seen that Sonali Phogat was forcefully made to drink a substance by the accused. Following this, she seems intoxicated and is taken to the washroom, where she remains for 2 hours. Police say they still don't know what happened in that 2-hour period.

6. From Curlies, Sonali Phogat went back to her hotel - Grand Leoney Resort. She was taken to St Anthony Hospital at Anjuna in North Goa district from her hotel on the morning of August 23, where she was declared brought dead. 

7. It is being reported that Sonali Phogat and the accused PA Sudhir Sangwan were living as husband and wife in a society in Gurgaon, Haryana. Sangwan had rented the flat three months ago and the rent agreement named Phogat as his wife. 

8. Reports also say that there could be a financial motive behind Phogat's death. Reportedly, Sudhir Sangwan was handling Phogat's locker which had property documents, while she was on a foreign trip for 15 days. 

9. Phogat's family has accused her PA Sudhir Sangwan of having raped her in the past, blackmailing her with the rape video, and trying to extort money. 

Sonali Phogat died on August 23, 2022. She gained fame as a TikTok star before becoming a Bigg Boss 14 contestant. In 2019, she even contested Haryana Assembly elections on a BJP ticket, but lost.
