The 40-storey towers, which took 3 years to be built (2009-2012), will now be razed to ground within a matter of 10 seconds.

What are the preparations for D(emolition)-Day?

  • The demolition exercise would take place at 2.30 pm on August 28.
  • During the demolition, the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway will be closed for all traffic for half an hour, from 2.15 to 2.45 pm, Noida DCP Ganesh Saha said. The traffic will be diverted to the Mahamaya flyover.

  • Emergency services like ambulance, fire brigade vehicles would be deployed at the time of the demolition.
  • More than 500 cops are also in place.
  • The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Station will have its DCP, Addl DCP, ACP and five officers of inspector ranks at the demolition site.

Locals in neighbouring societies asked to vacate the area by 6.30 am:

  • On the day of demolition, around 7,000 families residing in the two neighbouring residential societies; Emerald Court and ATS Village, have been asked to vacate their homes by 6.30 am.
  • By 7 am, water services to these societies will be stopped.
  • Residents have also been asked to turn off the gas regulators of their gas cylinders.
  • They have also been asked to trip the MCB of their homes as a precautionary measure.
  • Animals and any other human habitation within 500 metres of the Twin Towers will be moved to some other site from 7 am to 4 pm.

The rigging of the buildings completed: As per Edifice Engineering and South African firm Jet Demolition, explosives have been rigged into 9,640 holes drilled in the shears and columns of these towers. It is a process known as 'charging' of any structure before its implosion. The charging of the two towers were complete on August 23.

By Thursday, August 25, the connection of these explosives will be completed. Once it's done, the Noida Authority will conduct a final inspection of the towers.

What after the demolition? Once the demolition is completed, the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) will check the conditions of nearby towers. Once that is done, the electricity connection will be checked. Initially, residents will be asked to use stairs to get to their flats.

The pillars of the towers will also be checked. Once everything is checked by CBRI, people will be finally allowed to enter their homes.
