Few months ago, nobody knew who Vivek Ramaswamy was. Now, the hard right-wing Republican Presidential candidate in the US is hogging the limelight and seems to have scored some brownie points with the world's richest man, Elon Musk.

Elon Musk may not be involved in US politics in an official capacity, but his influence has been undeniable. In fact, a recent New Yorker article explored the world's richest man's "shadow rule" over matters of geopolitics and war discussing his massive presence in the Ukraine and Russia war with the use of Starlink.

So, what do Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk have to do with the recent Presidential elections?

  • So far, Musk's influence on the US government and internal affairs has not been in any official capacity. But Vivek Ramaswamy wants Musk to be more directly involved.
  • At a townhall recently, Ramaswamy floated the idea of Elon Musk becoming an advisor to the White House if he's elected.
  • Why? Because Elon Musk laid off 75% of employees when he took over Twitter and later rebranded it as X.
I've enjoyed getting to know better, Elon Musk recently, I expect him to be an interesting adviser of mine because he laid off 75% of the employees at Twitter.

  • Ramaswamy said he wants to bring in people with "a blank fresh impression" to the Oval Office.
  • Vivek Ramaswamy's vision for the US government has been led by "mass layoffs" strategy inspired by Elon Musk.
  • He thinks there is a lot of dead weight to be cut off. And in his view the dead weights that need to be shut down are the Department of Education, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
  • He's also an admirer of former US President Donald Trump. He's said he wants to build on the foundation that Trump left behind.

I want to build on the foundation that Trump laid, frankly, I will invite him as an adviser and a mentor. I don't want to relearn the same lessons. I want to pick up where he left off in taking on the administrative state.

  • And Ramaswamy also wants Trump as an advisor; a wish he's reiterated even after the former president was booked on charges of trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.

  • Ramaswamy and Musk have been flirting with each of their agendas for a while.
  • Ramaswamy was declared the winner of the Milwaukee debate by Tesla investor and fund manager Gary Black.

  • On August 17, Musk shared an interview of Ramaswamy with American right-wing anchor Tucker Carlson on X and called the 38-year-old first-time candidate "very promising".
