
A passenger train carrying some 50 people derailed in the western Netherlands in the wee hours of April 4. At least one person has been killed and 30 have been injured. Reports say the passenger train crashed into a construction crane and ploughed into a nearby field.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte tweeted about the incident:

The rail systems in The Netherlands are generally said to be very safe. However, there have been a few train derailment incidents coming out of other parts of Europe, notably Greece. Just last month a train derailment in Greece killed at least 26 people, following which the Transport Minister resigned.
