5 best smartphones to play games on

Smartphones have become a multi-faceted, personal interaction device.

Now as weird and corny as that sounds, it is true. You use your phones for literally everything. Work, social interaction, taking photos – everything is done on a phone these days. So it isn’t that much of a stretch that they have replaced portable gaming devices as well.

Here’s a countdown of 5 smartphones that are the best for gaming. We take it from the bottom straight up to the topnotch.

5. Redmi 2 Prime (Rs. 6,999)

If you are on a budget, then the Redmi 2 Prime is the one to go for. Powered by a Snapdragon 410 and an Adreno 306 GPU, this isn’t a powerhouse which will give you smooth high FPS gameplay, but for the price, it beats out almost every other phone in this price point. Expect consistent if slightly stuttery performance with this one in graphics intensive mobile games, but for the price, this is a solid choice.

4. Redmi Note 3 (Rs. 11,999)

As we go up a few notches in the price tier, we land at another Xiaomi budget wonder that has set fire to the global market. The Redmi Note 3 is almost the perfect gaming phone in the Rs. 12,000 price range, It features a Snapdragon 650 with an Adreno 510 GPU that delivers slick performance in the most demanding of mobile games, with little hints of slowdown, Plus it has a 4050mAh Battery to boot, which means it can handle your impromptu gaming sessions on your daily commute, just fine.

3. Nexus 6P (Rs. 39,999)

As we inch closer to the top tier priced phones, the Nexus 6P sits comfortably in the sweet spot between exuberant and affordable, Its smaller cousin, the 5X, is no slouch but the 6P is our pick for this price range. The combination of a Snapdragon 810 with an Adreno 430 handles almost everything thrown at it with the stylish ease of a matador, swerving out of the way of a rushing bull. It’s fast, smooth and consistent. You can’t go wrong with this one.

2. Samsung Galaxy S7 (Rs. 48,900)

Samsung really knocked it out of the park with this one, If the 6P is a Matador, then the S7 is the bull itself! Flaying it’s horns wildly as games take cover, It handles every game with aplomb, with consistent, smooth framerates across the board. Now it is true, that the US variant with the combination of a Snapdragon 820 and an Adreno 530 GPU delivers slightly better gaming performance than the Exynos 8890 with Mali T880 MP 12 GPU we get in India,  but it’s literally a negligible difference. You will be satisfied, regardless of the version you get.

1. iPhone 6S (Rs. 46,499)

If you can stomach the insanely expensive 6S Plus, then that would have been our pick for nothing else but the screen resolution and size of the display. For most people, this will be the far saner choice, even with Apple's senile insistence to carry a 16GB model in this day and age.

All the negativity aside, this is truly the best smartphone you can get for gaming, the A9 Processor combined with a PowerVR GT7600 GPU proves itself to be the best pair since Bonnie and Clyde, effortlessly mowing down games left and right. With smooth performance across the board, this is the smartphone to get for gaming. If you are willing to compromise on screen size, then the iPhone SE also makes an excellent choice with a much lower price point (Rs. 37,000), for most, this will be the one to get.
