Google on Wednesday (September 4) unveiled its latest Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones, featuring cutting-edge technology, AI enhancements, and impressive camera capabilities.

The devices, launched in India, have generated significant buzz, with pricing and features that are sure to smartphone aficionados alike, and will soon be up for sale.

Price and availability

  • The Pixel 8 series released yesterday comprises two new phones, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are available for pre-order in India with sales set to start later this month on Flipkart.
  • The Pixel 8 is placed at a competitive price of Rs 75,999 for the 128GB storage model, while the Pixel 8 Pro is priced at Rs 1,06,999 for the same storage capacity.
  • For those of you living in the metro cities, the tentative delivery date is expected to be October 14, according to the Flipkart website.

  • Additionally, Google is offering a few enticing launch offers, including bank discounts and exchange offers.
  • Flipkart, the exclusive retail partner for the devices, is providing an Rs 8,000 discount on select banks and an exchange offer of up to Rs 3,000 for the Pixel 8.
  • For the Pixel 8 Pro, buyers can enjoy a discount of Rs 9,000 and an exchange offer of up to Rs 4,000.

Design and colour options

  • The Pixel 8 series maintains a similar design to its predecessor, Pixel 7 series but with a notable change in the camera placement can be seen.
  • Both models feature an environmentally friendly design, composed of at least 18% recycled materials.
  • The Pixel 8 Pro comes with a Gorilla Glass Victus 2 matte back and polished aluminium frame, also available in Obsidian and Bay colours.
  • In contrast, the basic Pixel 8 sports a Gorilla Glass Victus back and a matte aluminium frame and is offered in Obsidian, Hazel, and Rose colour options.

  • Pixel 8 Pro: The Pixel 8 Pro boasts a remarkable camera setup, including a 50-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 48-megapixel telephoto lens with Super Res Zoom up to 30x. Both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro run on the latest Android 14 out-of-the-box and will receive seven years of OS, security, and Feature Drop updates, ensuring they stay up to date with the latest software upgrades.

Special Feature

For the first time, Google is coming with a dedicated temperature sensor on the Pixel 8 Pro, allowing users to measure body temperature. Both devices feature an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, under-display fingerprint sensors, and advanced connectivity options.
