iOS 16, the biggest software update for Apple devices, will roll out today (September 12). The new Apple operating system will offer some exciting features for both old and new devices.

iOS 16: Personal is powerful

iOS 16 was announced at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 6, 2022. The beta version for the public was released on July 11, 2022. Now, the final version will be accessible to Apple users from September 12, 2022.

Devices that will support iOS 16: The all-new operating system will be available for iPhone 8 and above series. iPhone SE (2nd generation and above) will also support iOS 16.

The latest iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will reach the customers with pre-installed iOS 16.

What are the major updates: The new iOS 16 will change the appearance of your iPhone in more ways than one:

1. Lock screen: iOS 16 will let the users customize their lock screen for the first time. After updating your devices you’ll be able to change fonts, colours and add widgets as per your preference.

You can also set multiple lock screens. Changing wallpapers will also become convenient for the users by just long-pressing on the lock screen. Plus you can now also add filters (like you add to your pictures) to your lock screen.

2. Notifications: For the first time Apple is changing the way it displays notifications on the lock screen. iPhone users, with the upgraded iOS 16, will see the notifications at the bottom of the screen. You can also change the appearance of your notifications. These can appear in an expanded list view, stacked view or hidden view.

You can also see live updates on the lock screen by simply adding a widget. This means you can track your food delivery partner without unlocking your phone.

3. iMessage: iOS 16 will make messaging easier than ever. You can unsend as well as edit a message sent recently. With iOS 16 you can also mark a read message unread and reply later as per your convenience.

4. Mails: Just like iMessage, you can also unsend a mail with iOS 16. Along with the unsend option, you will also get an option to schedule your mails. The mail app will also give you a reminder to follow up and catch mistakes like missing attachments.

Along with these, Apple will also offer some new changes to the health and fitness section, car play, keyboard and more.

Launch date and time in India: Indian users will be able to install iOS 16 after 10 pm tonight.
