Netflix has been creating a gaming experience for its members since 2021, when they added mobile games to Netflix. And now, they are taking the first step in making games playable on every device where their members watch Netflix — TVs, computers, and mobile.
The over-the-top (OTT) streaming service has started game testing on both TVs and PCs, following closely on the heels of the launch of their Netflix Game Controller app.
In a recent blog post, the streaming platform stated, "We are rolling out a limited beta test to a small number of members in Canada and the UK," albeit exclusively on specific TVs and PCs.
As part of this beta test, Netflix is allowing users to try their hand at two games: Oxenfree, a captivating creation from Night School Studio (a member of Netflix's game team), and Molehew's Mining Adventure, an arcade-style gem-hunting escapade.

"Coming soon to Netflix. Play games on your TV with the Netflix Game Controller. This Game Controller app pairs with your TV and allows you to play games on Netflix using your phone or mobile device." https://t.co/9U2zPPjvaq https://t.co/kd86uT88Aq pic.twitter.com/0A2SKSUlCW
After initially being unveiled in 2021, the approach to accessing these exclusive games was designed with distinct steps in mind:
1. Netflix Membership is All You Need: No extra fees, ads, or in-app purchases. Your Netflix subscription is your ticket.
2. Android and iOS Ready: Mobile games are on Android and iOS devices. On Android phones, there's a games row and tab. On iOS, a games row is there. Tablets have options too.
3. Global Player: Games match your language preference on your Netflix profile. If not available, it defaults to English.
4. Profiles Included: Play on multiple devices under one account. Manage devices on Netflix.com if needed.
5. Grown-up Gamers: Games aren't on kids' profiles. Adult PINs for access apply here.
6. Online and Offline: Some games need internet, some don't. Enjoy gaming even offline.
7. Games for Everyone: From newbies to pro gamers, there's something for everyone. And there's more to come as Netflix keeps adding entertainment.
With approximately 70 phone games already available, Netflix has set a goal of reaching 95 by 2023. Furthermore, they're incorporating TV show-based games like "The Queen's Gambit Chess" and "Too Hot to Handle 2." The realm of entertainment is receiving an invigorating twist!
In 2020 The Queen's Gambit kicked off a chess revolution, and now it has a game of its own coming to Netflix. Take some lessons from Mr Shaibel, play matches against Borgov or compete against friends in this love letter to the show. #GeekedWeek pic.twitter.com/xCWelNL1x5
