iPhone X, Galaxy S9+ and more: 5 phones with beautiful bezel-less displays

The smartphone industry has been on an upswing of late. With new phones being launched every few days, there are now a number of great options available in all price segments. This churn has also led to a serious stirring of the pot which has in effect brought down prices of smartphones and led to interesting features such as bezel-less displays now making way for phones that cost even less than Rs 10,000.

These beautiful displays, encompassing almost the entirety of the phone have become a great draw for buyers. Here are five phones you should definitely check out if you're in the market for a phone with a bezel-less display.

iPhone X

The 10th-anniversary edition of the iPhone is a device that was crafted with an eye on the future – a fact that even its appearance conveys. The device comes with a drastic redesign that sees it sporting a 5.8-inch OLED panel dominating the front which melts into the device's metal frame which again melts ito a reinforced sheet at the back of the phone.

This bezel-less OLED display reportedly made by Samsung employs Apple's "Super Retina Display" technology and renders a resolution as high as 1125x2436. It is also HDR ready, and has a great contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, and can churn out 458 ppi.

This bezel-less beauty is available in two storage variants, with the 64GB one priced at Rs 95,390 and the 256GB variant iPhone X available for no less than Rs 1,08,930.

Nokia 8 Sirocco

The Nokia 8 Sirocco is not an incremental upgrade on its predecessor. The device brings with it not only a new design but a bigger and better display. On the front, there is a 5.5-inch Quad HD pOLED curved display that looks absolutely beautiful and a lot more premium than last year's Nokia 8.

The curved display flows seamlessly into the steel frame of the phone which again merges a glass sheet at the back which houses cutouts for the phone's dual camera set-up and fingerprint scanner. The Nokia 8 Sirocco, no doubt, is the most good looking phone that the company has designed under HMD Global, but owing to its over 95 per cent glass body, the phone could also prove to be the most fragile device they have created yet.

In terms of price, the Nokia 8 Sirocco is 100 euro dearer than the Nokia 8 which was announced for 649 euro price. This bump in price could also see the phone coming to Indian shores with a price tag that crosses the Rs 45,000-mark.

Mi Mix 2

The successor to the phone that kicked off the bezel-less trend, the Mi Mix 2 uses premium materials such as ceramic and a display that occupies almost the entirety of the phone’s front, and quite frankly is stunning to look at.

The phone comes with a display that is slightly smaller at 5.99-inch but is again Full HD+ with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Xiaomi claims that despite the size, the phone is only as big as a typical 5.5-inch display smartphone currently available in the market.

The move to the smaller display as such was made to make the phone more manageable for one-handed usage. However, in our time with the device, single-handed use still remains an issue. As was the case with its predecessors, reaching corners while using the phone with one hand is a problem. Apart from that, the display looks great and performs as it should when used indoors or out under bright sunlight.

In terms of specs, the phone comes with top-of-the-line hardware and boasts of Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor and Adreno 540 GPU coupled with 6GB of RAM and built-in 128 storage – something that shows through when you interact with the phone.

The phone was launched with a price tag of Rs 37,999. However, it can now be bought from e-commerce portal Flipkart for as low as Rs 32,999.

Galaxy S9+

Another phone that comes with a beautiful bezel-less display is the Galaxy S9+. The Galaxy S9+ borrows heavily from the DNA of its predecessor. The device comes with a similar design scheme seen in last year's phone which, to be honest, was a hit with buyers across the world. Samsung claims with the two new phones it has trimmed down the bezel some more to give the phone a more edge-to-edge feel.

Much like last year, the phone's front is dominated by a 6.2-inch AMOLED display capable of producing up to a WQHD+ (2960x1440) resolution at an aspect ratio of 18:5:9. The device's display is curved on the sides, giving the display a unique look.

The S9+ is available for as low as Rs 64,900 (64GB) while the 256GB variant of the phone has been priced at Rs 72,900 in the country.

OnePlus 5T

The latest flagship from OnePlus comes equipped with Qualcomm’s powerful 64-bit Octa-core Snapdragon 835 SoC paired with 6GB/8GB of RAM and 64GB/128 of storage memory. It also has a 3300mAh battery under the hood with Dash Charging capabilities.

However, the standout feature of the phone is its beautiful edge-to-edge 18:9 FHD+ AMOLED panel which gives the device a more futuristic look. The phone's display also brings with it a number of colour modes – including SRGB and DCI-P3 – to make the details on the display pop or fade according to the user's taste.

The phone is available in two storage variants, with the more affordable variant priced at Rs 32,999 and the 128GB variant priced at Rs 37,999.
