What to know about Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+

We're weeks away from Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 and a number of top players have already started queuing up to unveil their flagship smartphones at the big ticket event held every year in Barcelona. South Korean smartphone maker, Samsung, has — for long — been teasing fans with what's to come.

Earlier this year, the company had hinted that the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus would debut at the show, and now more details about the two most anticipated devices have emerged. Samsung Galaxy S9 range will be unveiled at Samsung's Unpacked event on February 25.

Ahead of its launch, here's all we know about the two smartphones.

Camera reimagined

For long, there has been speculation about an all-new camera setup in the new flagship lineup, and if Samsung's launch teaser is anything to go by, that could well end up being true.

"Samsung Electronics will showcase the next generation of Galaxy devices that reimagines the camera and redefines the way you share your moments," said the electronics giant in a statement. Besides motion-detected, “super slow-mo” video capture, the devices will also feature variable aperture on their primary 12-megapixel cameras allowing the phone to switch between f/2.4 and smallest-in-class f/1.5 aperture mechanically.

Under the hood

The S8 lineup from Samsung to date boasts of extremely powerful phones that come with the very best in terms of internals. Looks like this year's flagship lineup from Samsung will repeat the same. The Galaxy S9 will include a 5.8-inch display and be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 (Exynos 9810 systems-on-chip in the rest of the world) with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

The larger S9+ is rumoured to sport a 6.2-inch display and 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. The Galaxy S9 is expected to feature a 3,000mAh battery, while the Galaxy S9+ will come packing a 3,500mAh battery.

Intelligent scan

The Samsung Galaxy S9 lineup will also bring an interesting new feature called the "Intelligent Scan". As per a VentureBeat report, the feature will combine "face and iris scanning to improve accuracy and security even in low or very bright light”.

However, Intelligent Scan, the report suggests, isn’t meant to replace anything — face scanning and iris scanning will still be available as separate options. The feature would also enable users to unlock their phones as soon as the screen turns on, without needing a swipe.
