Telegram Premium will now cost you Rs 400 a month. Should you pay?

Your very own Telegram app has launched a premium feature called 'Telegram Premium' for a mere $4.99 per month ie about Rs 400 per month and $5.99 (Rs 469) for iPhone users. An annual membership will cost you about Rs 4,800 in exchange for a host of benefits like the ability to download files faster, the magic power of sending and receiving a 4 GB file in an instance, and being able to auto-archive and hide new chats (in case you date many guys at once and don't want an unwanted intruder to know, wink-wink. Just kidding). But is it worth it? 

SO, WHAT WILL YOU GET FOR Rs 400?

If you are a Telegram Premium subscriber:

1. You can share heavy 4 GB size files (each) on your app (that means about 4 hours of 1080p video or 18 days of high-quality audio files).
2. You will be able to download your media and data files at the fastest possible speed without any speed limits .

   

    

3. You will receive double benefits as compared to other free version users. This means you can follow up to 1,000 channels and connect 4 accounts. You can also organise your chats in 20 folders and each folder can hold about 200 chats! ( But do you really chat with so many people though? Impressive). You can pin about 10 chats in your main list (which is nice) and reserve about 20 public t.me/name links (hmmm). If you love saving Telegram's gifs, a premium user like you can save about 400 favorite Gifs and 10 favorite stickers. Also, if you have a fetish for writing longish bios and captions for your images and videos, then you are in for a treat with Telegram Premium.
4. You will get some premium help as Telegram will try to help you translate your voice to text. I say try because though Telegram has promised the moon, the initial trial has failed for some. But I'm sure they will get better at it. (Even Google had bad days when they started) 

   

5. You can manage chats more effectively by auto-archiving and hiding new chats from non-contacts 

   

6. You can flash a damn new badge next to your name!  Also, you can create this so-called profile video that will be animated for everyone in the chats 
7. You can react more expressively with some more stickers. 

   

8. can enjoy an ad-free experience!  (This in itself is a separate benefit)

IS IT WORTH IT? 

Telegram is the first among its competitors (Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Signal, Google ) to launch its own premium tier to satisfy customer demands. This seems to be a great monetization move for the app that has just amassed about 700 million (5465 crore) monthly active users.

Well, if you are someone who needs to send heavy videos/data files every day, or manage a big team or you just need those files downloaded fast, this premium might be useful. Else, you are well placed.
