Twitter turns Torrent with Twitter Blue subscribers tweeting entire 2-hour movies

There's a new Torrent website that you already know of. It's called Twitter. It is emerging as the next top place to look for pirated movies and even porn. Or perhaps a 1.5-hour-long video of Donald Trump dancing in the same frame may amuse you.

Elon Musk's team at Twitter just came up with a new feature for Twitter Blue subscribers. Twitter Blue users can now upload two-hour-long videos of 8GB through the Twitter web or iOS devices. Android users are currently out of luck as they can only post videos up to 10 minutes long.

These videos can be accessed by all on the platform, and aren't limited to just other Twitter Blue subscribers. A subscription is only required for uploading videos.

Subscribers can upload videos up to 2 hours long (1080p) on twitter.com and Twitter for iOS. Subscribers can upload videos up to 10 minutes long on Android.

So, is Twitter the new YouTube?

  • We will have to wait and see if Twitter will emerge as the new YouTube, though it seems unlikely, given the fact that people can upload long-form videos for free on YouTube.
  • However, what is happening is that some Twitter Blue subscribers are uploading full-length movies, some newly released, on Twitter, giving rise to piracy.
  • The Verge reported that someone even uploaded the full version of Shrek the Third in the comments below Elon Musk's announcement, which has since been taken down.

  • And then some Twitter users reported watching the entire Super Mario Bros Movie.
  • Despite the piracy issues that Twitter has been inundated with, some people are considering subscribing to Twitter Blue after the launch of the new feature as it would help them publicise their videos on more platforms.
  • On the other hand, some people pointed out that this strategy isn't exactly bringing in money for Twitter. The server costs for storing the videos is reportedly much higher than what Twitter makes with Twitter Blue subscription revenue in a month.
