Do you cringe at those typos you made while texting on WhatsApp? And then find it annoying to send the correction? Well, now you can breathe a sigh of relief. WhatsApp has FINALLY introduced an 'edit' option for messages, similar to what is already available on rival platforms like Signal and Telegram.

WhatsApp announced the feature to allow users to edit their messages within 15 minutes of sending them. The edit option has started rolling out globally and will be available to users in a few weeks.

How will the edit option work?

For the moments when you make a mistake, or simply change your mind, you can now edit your sent messages…
- WhatsApp
  • To edit your message, you need to long press on the sent message and choose 'edit' option from the pop-up menu. You can only edit your messages within 15 minutes.
  • Edited messages will also be flagged to the receiver and will appear as edited. However, unlike on Facebook, users will not be able to see the history of edited messages. The edit option for messages on Facebook came out nearly a decade ago.
  • Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the latest feature in a Facebook post, editing "Beast of Luck" to "Best of Luck".

So far, messages on WhatsApp couldn't be edited. Any typo, error, or addition had to send as a new message. Messages can also be deleted within 60 hours but the receiver will see that a message has been deleted.

WhatsApp has been coming out with a slew of new features in recent months. WhatsApp recently rolled out a new locked chat feature to let users have an extra layer of privacy and security for some of their chosen chats. It also said it will allow users to use their accounts across multiple mobile phones
