Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi has been disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP. The disqualification comes one day after Gandhi was convicted in a 2019 defamation case on his remark on 'Modi surname'. Rahul Gandhi was sentenced to two years in jail by the district court in Surat, Gujarat. Bypolls are expected to be conducted in the constituency of Wayanad in Kerala, now that Rahul Gandhi has been disqualified as an MP.
