6 serious reasons for which your manager can fire you

The world has seen many weird reasons to fire employees. (Photo: Getty Images)

Though getting fired from your workplace sucks, you are kind of asking for it if you show up drunk at your office, fail a drug test or disappear during work hours. If you get fired like that, another big problem that you will face is: how you are going to show it on your resume?

Braden Wallake is the CEO of HyperSocial, a US-based company that was formed to help businesses improve their performance on social media. Recently, Braden's firm had to lay off a few people and Braden posted about it on his LinkedIn page. In his post, he took responsibility for the layoffs, admitted that this was his fault, and felt sorry because the people who had been let go might have still been employed if he and his team had made better choices.

With that post, he also added a photo of himself where he was in tears, thus earning him the name 'Crying CEO'. Though he did not reveal why he had fired his employees, it later emerged that two employees were fired.

While Braden probably wanted to come across as vulnerable and share his breakdown, his post was received with mixed reactions. Many questioned his tone, intentions, and even logic behind his post.

Though we don't know why Braden had to fire his employees, here are 6 reasons that can actually get you into trouble:

1. Showing up drunk at work: If you think coming to work while being drunk is not ''problematic'', think again. The problem arises when you are drunk and cannot function as you should. Also, your boss isn't going to keep you employed if you lose office assets and disappear during work hours. In fact, it's a sure-shot formula to get fired.

2. Getting caught red-handed while on drugs: If you have had a waaailldd weekend and consumed drugs or got drugs on you, you can only hope that it doesn't become the topic of conversation when you are at work. Though you may be covered with insurance, getting sick at work might mandate you to be tested, and if you fail the drug test, you will lose two things in one go: your job and the insurance.

Also, if someone steals your drugs, you won't be able to do anything about it at work.

3. Sleeping at your desk: Though it's not a crime to sleep at your desk, it's definitely not what you are paid for, unless it is your job description.

4. Disappearing during work hours: You are paid to get some work done, and not to just punch in and punch out of your system. But yes, if your leader doesn't notice it, its not really your fault, is it? But you cannot complain now, coz it is you who will end up getting fired, not your leader.

5. Permanently damaging office property: Office property is expensive and can cost a bomb. Your office may either recover this loss from you or worst, fire you.

(Also, how would you show this on your resume?)

6. Ignoring the boss's words. Even if it's personal.

So don't do anything stupid that gets you fired from your workplace. Coz getting fired comes with another problem: showing it on your resume.
