Streaming giants Amazon and Netflix are having an intense battle to bag the rights for Chris Hemsworth’s comeback movie, where he shares the screen with The Last of Us's, Pedro Pascal.

What

Two top-of-the-game Hollywood actors in the field are teaming up for the upcoming project. The announcement on Tuesday revealed that Pedro Pascal and Chris Hemsworth will co-star in Crime 101 - a fresh cinematic interpretation of Don Winslow's eponymous novella.

Bart Layton, best known for his work on American Animals (2018), is set to helm the movie.

According to a report from Deadline, Pascal and Hemsworth showed interest for the film pre-SAG-AFTRA strike, but no current deals are underway. Amazon holds the edge for distribution over Netflix.

About the book

Crime 101 found its place in Broken - a compilation of short novels, which was published by Harper Collins in 2020. The novella unveils a series of sophisticated jewel heists along the Pacific Coast Highway, baffling authorities for years with the meticulous Crime 101 methodology employed by the elusive perpetrator. Notably, within the Broken collection, The Last Ride and Broken itself are slated for cinematic adaptation.

The collaborative effort to bring Crime 101 to life involves Shane Salerno's Story Factory, Eric Fellner from Working Title, and CAA.

Chris Hemsworth's return

In a segment of the Disney+ show Limitless, featuring actor Hemsworth, he discovered his inherent susceptibility to Alzheimer's disease. Following this revelation and prompted by the series, Hemsworth declared a brief sabbatical from acting to reconnect with his family and reflect on his own life.

"It really triggered something in me to want to take some time off. And since we finished the show, I've been completing the things I was already contracted to do. Now when I finish this tour this week, I'm going home and I'm going to have a good chunk of time off and just simplify. Be with the kids, be with my wife."

Hemsworth’s most recent release, Extraction 2 on Netflix, was believed to be his last film before his sabbatical from acting, but the news of Crime 101 is a sigh of relief for.

If one thing's for sure, its that the Thor actor isn't hanging his hammer anytime soon.
