Ranbir Kapoor is Kabir Singh in Animal teaser, made by Sandeep Reddy Vanga

Three months after its first look hit the internet, we finally have a teaser for Ranbir Kapoor's upcoming film Animal where he takes on a role he has never explored before. Animal is directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who earlier made the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy and its Hindi remake Kabir Singh. Both the movies dealt with toxic masculinity and messed-up, bearded protagonists. The teaser of Animal brings back those memories.

No Ranbir Kapoor fan is used to seeing the Barfi actor in a dark, gritty and graphic action-hero, but that is about to change.

The teaser for Ranbir’s upcoming film Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, has certainly set up an entirely new image for Bollywood’s chocolate boy/charmer.

The hype for this movie has been consistently high ever since a first look was released a few months ago. People had been anticipating a bold and bangy character set-up for Ranbir in Animal because of the first look’s graphic action sequences. 

What the teaser of Animal shows

Unlike the first look, Animal’s teaser gives out much more context to the Sandeep Reddy directorial. The 2-minute-26-second teaser gives the basic concept of the movie: how Ranbir’s character becomes an angry gangster-style “Animal”, with daddy issues.    

• The teaser carries on a whole lot of Reddy’s classic Kabir Singh vibe to it. Ranbir gets a sad and “heart-breaking” flashback.
• We get the first look of Anil Kapoor as a disappointed and snappy father, and his troubled relationship with his son, Ranbir... and the potential beginning of Ranbir's issues.

• The narrative of Animal centres on a tumultuous father-son dynamic within the context of brutal underworld violence. This harrowing environment ultimately pushes Ranbir’s character into psychopathy, from what it looks like.
• The teaser opens with the first look of Rashmika Mandana, who is in a romantic relationship with Ranbir and hinting at a potential twist that will be canon for Ranbir’s character development. 
• Probably one of the unexpected bits from the teaser was Bobby Deol as the antagonist of the movie, with little revealed about his character. Bobby's character actually turns out to be one of the most interesting ones shown in the teaser. 

This action-packed movie about a troubled father-son relationship is set for a December 1, 2023 release.

'Superstar' Ranbir Kapoor

What also stands out in the poster of the movie is how Ranbir Kapoor is billed: 'Superstar' Ranbir Kapoor, in a style reminiscent of movies down South.

Given that Animal is directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, a Telugu director who shot to fame for his movie Arjun Reddy (and its subsequent Hindi remake Kabir Singh), the billing could be his brainchild.
