Rebel Moon: Zack Snyder's Star Wars and Dune-styled redemption project

Netflix has finally dropped the much-anticipated teaser trailer for "Rebel Moon," a space fantasy movie helmed by Zack Snyder. The film is scheduled to land on the streaming platform on December 22. 

About the movie

It's noteworthy that this constitutes the initial segment of the movie, titled "Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire." Furthermore, Netflix has plans to drop the second part titled "Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver" on April 19, 2024. 

The decision to split the film stems from its extensive runtime, with an approximate duration of three hours, a choice which was discouraged by Scott Stuber, Netflix's film chairman, who previously claimed that movies that run below two hours have a hugher viewership. 

The story of Rebel Moon

"Rebel Moon" marks a new journey for director Zack Snyder, as he explores the window of this sci-fi subgenre . 

The story unfolds in a serene colony situated at the fringe of a distant galaxy. Once a peaceful settlement, this colony now confronts an existential menace posed by the forces of the oppressive Regent Balisarius. 

To counter this looming chaos and unjust future, the colony's inhabitants take action. They enlist the aid of Kora (Sofia Boutella), a young female messenger with a complex history. Tasked with seeking support, Kora traverses neighbouring planets, reaching out to diverse warriors. 

The trailer also gave us a proper look at 

• Charlie Hunnam as Kai, 
• Michiel Huisman as Gunnar

• the first piece of dialogue from Anthony Hopkins who voices Jimmy,
• multiple action-packed takes of Djimon Hounsou’s General Titus

So far, major details about the storyline are kept under careful wraps and have not been disclosed by Snyder.

What to expect?

This will mark Zack Snyder’s first movie after Army of the Dead (2021) which was also a Netflix release, but one that received an underwhelming response from the audience. 

By the looks of the teaser, one thing is for sure that Snyder has used all his artillery in this Rogue One/Dune/Man of Steel-looking flick. The visual effects are off-the-charts, which is perfectly mixed together with the use of music. 

Moreover, Snyder wants nothing to fall out of the basket and is keeping tight seals on the project which seems like one for his redemption.
