The Indian Men’s cricket team kicked off their Asian Games 2023 campaign with a resounding victory, defeating Nepal by 23 runs on Tuesday, with Yashasvi Jaiswal setting a new T20I record.

What

The Indian Men’s cricket squad for the Asian Games 2023 is determined to follow in the footsteps of the successful women's team. They started their Asian Games 2023 campaign with a hard-fought 23-run victory against Nepal.

While this win was the result of several pivotal individual performances, the standout moment belonged to Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored a century, becoming the youngest Indian to reach the 100-run mark in T20 internationals.

In his sixth T20I match, Jaiswal achieved this remarkable century in just 48 deliveries, marking his debut T20I hundred during the Asian Games 2023. He reached this milestone with a single run off a delivery bowled by Nepal's pacer, Sompal Kami.

Jaiswal achieved this career milestone only months after making his international debut in July, during the first test against West Indies.

Jaiswal's rise

Yashasvi Jaiswal, considered one of the rising stars of Indian cricket, has been making waves since his impressive maiden IPL 2023 campaign. This earned him a maiden call-up to the Indian squad for a Test series West Indies in July, 2023, where he also bagged his first international century.

With this century, the talented batsman, at only 21 years and 13 days old, surpassed the previous record held by another Indian star, Shubman Gill, who achieved a century against New Zealand at the age of 23 years and 143 days.

Jaiswal's century, combined with an explosive innings by Rinku Singh, helped India secure a target of 203 runs, proving to be too much for the Nepal side.
