There is no doubt that memes have become an important part of our lives and most of our day passes by scrolling through our Instagram feed. A recent survey by Instagram shows that your 'bad taste in memes' can be an actual deal breaker. Yes, you read that right.
As the year comes to an end, Instagram released takeaways from a survey of 5,000 Gen Z respondents across India, Brazil, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The survey brings out various trends, and out of them, one of the questions was of course about memes, and (not) surprisingly, more than a third of Gen Z respondents in India picked 'bad taste in memes' as their top turn-off.
Apart from that, the study also shows that Indian Gen Z demonstrates a greater enthusiasm for creatively showcasing fashion trends.
This highlights the growing popularity of trends like GRWM (Get Ready With Me) and thrifting, where creators ingeniously integrate products into their content.
Examples include DIY approaches featuring 'sarees' and 'jhumkas'.
There is no doubt that one of the ways you can showcase your love is by sharing memes. In fact, in September this year, the world saw its first just meme-based dating app, called Schmooze.
What is Schmooze? Well, it is a meme-based dating app that comes from the alumni of Standford University and is backed by investors of Hinge, Snapchat and Giphy.
Most of us on social media (or off it) today converse more in memes than perhaps any proper language. So, the findings of the survey -- that bad taste in memes are a deal breaker for Indian Gen Z, is not quite surprising.
