Canadian singer and pop sensation Justin Bieber is currently facing backlash for a recent social media post during the Israel-Hamas conflict. In an attempt to show his support for Israel on Instagram, he accidentally shared a photo of Gaza in ruins.

Realising his mistake, he promptly deleted the post and shared his message again.

What

It appears that Justin Bieber might benefit from having a fact-checking team in place. Following Jamie Lee Curtis's similar blunder of sharing pictures of Palestinian children with a caption supporting Israel, Justin Bieber has now made the same mix-up between Gaza and Israel.

  • On October 11, Justin initially posted a message on his Instagram story that read, "Praying for Israel," alongside an image depicting the devastation in Gaza.

  •  However, upon recognizing the error, he quickly deleted the post and replaced it with a new one.

  • The revised post simply read, "Praying for Israel," accompanied by a heartbreak emoticon, without any accompanying photo.

Social media backlash

Justin faced considerable criticism on social media, particularly on Twitter and in the comments section of his Instagram, as a result of this mistake.

Previously, he had shared an Instagram story conveying his empathy for both his Israeli and Palestinian friends, expressing his reluctance to vilify entire populations. He stressed the importance of standing with the families who have suffered during the conflict.

Jamie Lee Curtis's Post

This incident follows a similar controversy involving American actress Jamie Lee Curtis. On October 8, Curtis shared a photo from Gaza in a message expressing support for Israel, but she later removed the post.

Curtis used an Instagram post to express her solidarity with Israel, featuring an image of children running, one boy carrying a little girl. The caption included the words "Terror in the skies" and an Israeli flag emoji.
