Art can be appreciated in various forms, from observing it for hours to hanging it on your wall. However, Japan has added a unique twist by considering sniffing animal butts a worthy addition to the art world.

What the..

Japan is renowned for its diverse cultural offerings, including anime, unconventional furniture, technology, cinema, literature, and distinct artistry. Recently, a video surfaced online, causing a significant buzz, as it showcased people sniffing animal butts at an exhibition in Kobe, Japan.

Recently a fashion model named Gabriella Bernard, shared a video of her experience at the Atoa Aquarium at Kobe, Japan in which people could be seen sniffing animal butts through portraits of animals at an open-to-all exhibition.

The exhibition garnered attention due to its unconventional concept, aligning with Japan's penchant for embracing uniqueness. The video showcased numerous individuals fearlessly exploring the array of butts on display.

Eww…tell me more

The exhibition at Atoa Aquarium showcased captivating glass frames containing diverse fauna portraits. These frames incorporated small open holes, inviting visitors to engage their sense of smell by rubbing and, yes, even sniffing the portrayed animals' butts.

Each image was infused with carefully crafted artificial fragrances, successfully replicating the distinct scent associated with each animal's butt. The video demonstrated people eagerly sniffing scents ranging from penguins, cats, and rabbits to even a tiger, although the latter proved overwhelming for Gabriella's olfactory senses.

Atoa Aquarium promotes its "Gallery" section on their official website, proclaiming that the art within each frame will captivate visitors' senses. It is safe to say they take this promise quite seriously.

How are people taking it?

While some find the exhibition peculiar, others argue that such unconventional displays are not entirely surprising in Japan, a country known for both innovative and unconventional ideas.

Gabriella, who shared the video, aptly captioned it, "I've said it once and I'll say it again. Japan makes everything into an EXPERIENCE." Sniffing animal butts is undoubtedly not the typical experience one anticipates when attending an art exhibition.
