Why people on Twitter have an issue with Milind Soman 'marrying' girlfriend Ankita Konwar

Social media could not keep calm when supermodel, actor and marathon runner Milind Soman admitted that he has been in a relationship with Ankita Konwar, a runner and a cabin crew executive of Air Asia. It was a rerun of the same frenzy on Tuesday after reports of their marriage, scheduled to take place next year, emerged.

The madness in both cases is over the same issue: 52-year-old Milind Soman and his 20-something girlfriend, mixed with a few “heartbroken” factors here and there.

Celebrity marriages can rarely escape public attention. And when there is an age gap of over 25 years between the bride and groom, social media can’t act mature, given the fact that the excitement of Virat Kohli-Anushka Sharma wedding is just dying down.

According to reports, Milind and Ankita recently made a trip to Guwahati, the latter's hometown. It is reported that Milind met Ankita’s parents and also attended her nephew’s birthday. He scheduled his visit to attend the birthday party, which indicates the close familial ties they share.

Social media acts holier-than-thou. Again

There is no doubt that the “Made in India” man is much loved. That probably explains why Twitterati don’t approve of this act. There was a loud voice of protest when news about the courtship first emerged. The reports of his marriage reignited the moral policing that was losing its way, finding no updates from the couple.

Ankita’s age: Social media cares to get confused

As Milind Soman made headlines for marrying his “26-year-old” girlfriend soon, Twitterati found some real “foul play” with the age, as last month Ankita was described as an “18-year-old”. Some people even dug deeper and found out that she has been working with the airline industry for a few years. So she could not be 18 years old, as reported earlier.

Some Milind fans even alluded this to a famous line from his movie December 16 — Dulhan ki Vidaai Ka Waqt Badalna Hain”— to make fun of him.

In an earlier interview shot soon after he received social media backlash for dating a woman half his age, Milind Soman said, “I don’t really worry about competition in anything because basically it’s about me. And if it’s a relationship, it’s about both the people. And I don’t consider age at all for anything—whether it’s relationship, fitness or health or whatever.”
