Daily Recco, December 31: Say goodbye to 2020 with Andaz Apna Apna

We bid adieu to 2020 and get ready to welcome 2021 with the epitome of hilarity and the funniest movie of Hindi cinema — Andaz Apna Apna.

There are comedy movies and then there is Andaz Apna Apna (1994). This cult blockbuster has brought us many laughs and is still continuing to do so even after 26 years since it was released.

Known to be one of the funniest movies in Hindi cinema, Andaz Apna Apna starred Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Shakti Kapoor. From the script to the dialogues, this epitome of hilarity was written and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi.

Who doesn’t remember the side-splitting one-liners from the movie? "Main toh kehta hoon aap purush hi nahi hain... maha purush hain, maha purush" or "Galti se mistake ho gaya" or the most comical villain — Crime Master Gogo (essayed by Shakti Kapoor) who is also Mogambo ka Bhatija — saying, "Crime Master Gogo naam hai mera, aankhen nikal ke gotiyan khelta hoon." Remember all of these? Shabash, mere Cheetey!

Then there is the whole comedy of errors of Raveena Tandon being the fake Raveena Bajaj and real Karishma and Karisma Kapoor being the real Raveena Bajaj and fake Karishma. Even the father Ram Gopal Bajaj has an evil twin brother —Shyam Gopal Bajaj AKA Teja. And with Amar (Aamir Khan) and Prem (Salman Khan, duh!) trying to outwit each other to win the affections of Raveena who really is Karishma, there is also the angle of Shyam Gopal trying to masquerade as Ram Gopal to get rich and pay off his debts to Crime Master Gogo. Wait! Who is who, now?

Each song in the film evokes the nostalgia of growing up in the 1990s. Be it Ello Ello or Ye Raat Aur Ye Doori, the opening tune in itself does the magic.

We wish you a happy and a laughter-filled New Year’s Eve.
