A lot has been written about Riz Ahmed, the spectacular superstar who left his audience stunned in Sound of Metal. The film comes with six Academy Award nominations. Sound of Metal also picked up two Oscars at the 93rd Academy Awards on April 25 (April 26 IST). The film won the Best Film Editing and Best Sound Oscars and deservedly so, although Riz Ahmed lost out on the Best Actor Oscar (which went to Anthony Hopkins).

So why should you watch Sound of Metal?

Riz Ahmed's performance as Reuben Stone. Ahmed spent eight months earning American Sign Language two hours a day. He spent two hours a day on drum lessons, two hours a day with a personal trainer, and then there was his acting coach too. His commitment and dedication to the film is exactly what Abraham Marder, who wrote the screenplay along with director Darius Marder, was looking for.

The script of Sound of Metal originated from Metalhead, a project that director Derek Cianfrance embarked on but couldn't finish. The plot of the film was essentially the same: a metal drummer who begins to lose his hearing and how he gets on with life.

Sound of Metal opened to widespread critical acclaim for bringing to fore the experiences and problems that the deaf community faces on a daily basis. Riz Ahmed's performance helps elevate it further.

You can watch Sound of Metal on Amazon Prime Video.
