Walker Scobell is the new Disney+ Percy Jackson. Twitter reacts

Fans of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series, it's time for you to rejoice! The author has announced The Adam Project's Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson for the new Disney+ show.

Rick made the announcement on his website and told fans that Walker's 'perfect mix of comedic timing, sweetness, rebelliousness, snark and heroism' perfectly embodies the book character's personality. While Rick personally delivered the good news via Zoom to Walker on January 28, fans came to know of Walker's new status as Percy on April 11.

STORYLINE: The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series follows the story of a 12-year-old boy (Percy) who learns he is the demigod son of the Greek God, Poseidon, and his adventures with fellow demigod, Annabeth Chase and satyr, Grover Underwood

The first book, which fans expect the first season to be based on, is about Percy understanding his newfound status as a demigod and the King of Gods, Zeus, accusing him of stealing his master lightning bolt, forcing him and his friends on an trip across the US to find the bolt and clear his name.

While a series of Percy Jackson movies have been made in the past starring Logan Lerman as the title character and Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth, they massively strayed from the original plotline and couldn't seem to strike a chord with the series' existing fanbase. (yes we know, we've unlocked some bad memories here)

But with the confirmation of the new Disney+ series and the guarantee that the author is more involved in the making of the series, fans are celebrating the news of Walker's confirmation as Percy

CELEBS SAY CONGRATS: But fans of the books aren't the only ones congratulating Walker for his new role. Celebrities like Mark Ruffalo and Rachel Zelger have also congratulated the child star.

The MCU's Hulk wrote on Twitter, "Yay, Walker!"

while West Side Story's Rachel Zegler wrote, "I have never been prouder of someone i do not know than i am for that sweet young man playing Percy Jackson."

Walker's The Adam Project co-star, Ryan Reynolds has also congratulated him and in true Ryan style, cracked a joke. He tweeted, "I guess this makes me older Percy Jackson? Congrats Walker Scobell! You were always a demigod in my mind."

Rick continued the joke and tweeted, "How did you find this photo of Older Percy from season 32?"

Now if you're confused about where this joke comes from, Walker played Ryan's younger version in The Adam Project. The joke was explained by the author himself in a tweet.

Check it out here:

WALKER FEELS HONOURED: Since the public announcement, Walker has been re-tweeting multiple tweets about his confirmation with the caption, "Honoured". Check this one post out:

RETURN OF LOGAN: Fans are also asking for the return of Logan Lerman, but not as Percy or older Percy but as Percy's father, Poseidon. (so are we)

Multiple long-term fans of the books and of Logan have demanded the return of The Perks of Being a Wallflower star. One user tweeted, "Walker being cast as Percy Jackson has further fuelled my logan lerman x poseidon pipeline."

Another wrote, "next casting logan lerman as poseidon i’m SOOOO serious."

One fan simply wrote, "Daddy. Son."

and another also wants Ryan Reynolds to join the cast as Apollo and Tom as Hades.

No doubt, we're all very excited to hear Walker say, "Look, I didn’t want to be a half-blood!"
