Comedian and auto enthusiast Jay Leno suffers serious burns after his car bursts into flames

The former Tonight Show host, Jay Leno suffered serious burns after one of his automobiles burst into flames in his garage over the weekend and seriously injured the comedian's face. 

He is being treated for burns at a Los Angeles hospital and is now recovering.  

I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.

The flames burned the left side of Leno's face but did not penetrate his eye or his ear according to BBC. The comedian also had to cancel his Lag Vegas conference on Sunday because of a "serious medical emergency", according to People's magazine.

The former late-night TV host is an avid car collector and also has a CNBC series, Jay Leno's Garage, which was launched in 2015. 

The career trajectory of Leno:

  • Leno hosted one of America's most-watched late-night television shows, attracting around 4.8 million viewers to his five-nights-a-week show until he left in 2009 and was succeeded by Conan O'Brien in 2014.
  • His Jay Leno's Garage show, which started in 2015, had seven seasons and 88 episodes.
  • Leno now hosts a new show called You Bet Your Life. 
  • He also has a regular column in Popular Mechanics magazine where he displays his collection and gives car tips.
