Veteran Indian actor Waheeda Rehman, who is often considered one of the most elegant actors in the industry, is being conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award this year. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India's highest honour in cinema.

On September 26, 2023, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur announced via a post on X that veteran actor Waheeda Rehman will receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award this year.

I feel an immense sense of happiness and honour in announcing that Waheeda Rehman ji is being bestowed with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this year for her stellar contribution to Indian Cinema.

The Dadasaheb Phalke award is the highest recognition in Indian cinema, and Rehman’s works in the industry over more than seven decades makes her a well-deserved recipient for the honour.

In his post on X, Anurag Thakur praised Rehman’s acting skills, experience and immense contribution to Indian cinema.

Conincidentally, today also marks the birth anniversary of another late Indian actor Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehmaan. Both the actors shared the screen in several movies like Guide, Prem Pujari, Kala Bazar.

It makes me very grateful that the recognition has come to me on the centenary birthday of my favourite co-star late Dev Saab (Dev Anand). There couldn’t have been a better day to announce it.
