What's worse than having to take math exam? Having to take it twice. Twitter reacts to CBSE re-exam

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced on March 28 that students of Class 10 and Class 12 would have to take their maths and economics exams once again. The reason behind putting children through this trauma is a story as old as sin: paper leaks.

In a statement, CBSE said, “The Board has taken cognisance of certain happenings in the conduct of certain examinations as are being reported. With the view to upholding the sanctity of the Board examinations and in the interest of the fairness to the students, the Board has decided to reconduct the examinations in the subjects,” though the dates for the exams are yet to be declared.

A social media storm was expected and it did not disappoint. While most seemed to empathise with students — after all, it is hard not to feel bad for students who have worked hard for exams, who look forward to their vacations, only to have all their plans foiled.

It's hardly surprising, for Maths is a subject known to give students across the world nightmares that they often recount throughout their lives.

There is no denying that the education system, especially the one nurtured by the CBSE, needs to be questioned.

And what social media outrage in India is complete without Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name being dragged into it?

Of course, there were also some who could not resist taking potshots at Smriti Irani, the former Union HRD minister, whose educational qualifications have been contentious for some time now.

But the real legend is Robert Baptiste, the French security researcher and hacker who has been creating trouble for UIDAI. Despite being asked to “help out” with the exams, he had his principles in place.
