Learn it from Deepika: Why getting tattooed for pyaar is a bad idea

Making body the canvas of your emotions may not be an ideal thing to do.

Getting inked for love must be one of the boldest steps ever taken in the history of relationships. But, it was cool in the last decade — when writing your name somewhat amounted to ownership. Now, it’s not, because love is not skin-deep.

On the other hand, a tattoo is!

The frenzy over the Deepika-Ranveer wedding is giving way to the fresh excitement over the Nick-Priyanka wedding. DeepVeer are now in full public view without any censorship, and we are leaving no stones unturned to literally breathe down Deepika’s neck. And, according to some recent researches, it has been conjectured that Deepika Padukone, in all probability, has removed her neck tattoo, which was screaming ‘RK’ (Ranbir Kapoor) since the duo were dating.

That it might have been covered in a cosmetic way is not the idea that struck us instantly. Instead, the idea that she might have got rid of the tattoo for good, post her wedding to Ranveer Singh, has found many more takers!

But there’s more to this than meets the eye.

The 'RK' tattoo has had a spectacular career in Bollywood.

When it debuted in 2008, it must have raised many eyebrows, especially of those who were well-versed with Ranbir Kapoor’s disposition.

Ranbir and Deepika later broke up, as many had discussed. This was a turning point for the tattoo because of all the more attention it started getting.

On Koffee with Karan, Deepika was once asked whether she regretted the tattoo. She did not and would never get it off, she said. There were even lofty theories like she would not remove the tattoo because it would always be a ‘reminder of the impulsive things she did in life’.

Despite the assurance though, our prying eyes never missed a move the tattoo made.

There were reports of Deepika planning to redesign the tattoo, apparently trying to figure out whether the ‘K’ (Kapoor) could be subtly turned into an ‘S’ (Singh), or whether the ‘S’ could be buried under some flowery designs, etc.

The tattoo was there in Cannes 2017, but skipped Cannes 2018. Then again, it was there in an Instagram post a few months ago, but it is not there after the wedding.

So, we don’t know what has happened with it. But we surely know that making the body the canvas of your emotions may not be an ideal thing to do.

And we are not the first one to tell you this.

Superstar indeed: How Hrithik and childhood love, now former wife Susanne shared the same star tattoo. (Photo: Twitter)

Hrithik Roshan and his ex-wife Susanne Khan had a “couple tattoo” — a six-point star, also known as Solomon’s Seal. Following their break-up, it was reported that Susanne had added some text to her seal, so that it doesn’t bear any memories of Hrithik. But the duo also had each others’ names inked on other parts of their arms — and we don’t know what happenned to them.

Removing a permanent tattoo through laser must not be a big deal for Hollywood or Bollywood celebrities. So, the money and pain involved is not exactly our concern.

What we worry over is how to recognise the exact moment when you know that this one love-tattoo, big and elaborate or tiny but intricate, is going to stay right with the person bearing it — Deepika, Hrithik, Zayn Malik, Prateik Babbar, all have trodden the same road — while the person bearing the actual name on the tattoo has left the building.

We still don’t know that, but at least we can assume why Saif Ali Khan swiftly married Kareena Kapoor!
