Quake take! How BJP's 'Bhookamp' trend worked in Congress's favour
Prior to the debate over the No Confidence motion in the Lok Sabha, a war was already brewing on social media. The BJP social media team, in a call-back to Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s 2016 post-demonetisation comment “My speech will cause an earthquake,” started trending the hashtag “BhookampAaneWalaHai”.
Much mockery on social media may, of course, have not prepared the BJP for Rahul Gandhi’s performance on the floor. A searing attack on the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, however, seems to have turned the tide of this trend and brought along a new hashtag: “BhookampAaGaya”.
A politically motivated trend it may be — the Congress IT cells seems to be fanning the flame — the hashtag does make a few scathing attacks on the ruling party, a party that had once upon a time perfected the art of winning voters on social media itself.
