What happened?

  • The train's engine reportedly caught fire due to a blaze in the battery box of one of the coaches.
  • The train was immediately stopped at Kurwai Kethora station.
  • Fire brigade was called in to douse the fire.
  • The fire was limited to the battery box and the train is set to take off again after an examination, according to the Indian Railways.
  • Videos on social media show fire blazing from underneath a coach, passengers waiting near the train, and the fire being doused.

  • The train had departed from Rani Kamalapati station (earlier called Habibganj) for Nizamuddin in New Delhi.

The Vande Bharat Express on the route was inaugurated by PM Modi recently in April. It takes the train 7.5 hours to cover 701 kilometres.
