Heavy fog in Delhi and NCR causes flight and train delays, accidents

As winter grips the northern states of India, parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) find themselves under a thick blanket of fog, accompanied by dropping temperatures. Here are the latest details:

Over 110 flights delayed

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'dense to very dense' fog alert in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and several other states from December 27 to 29.

  • This dense fog has led to several disasters and disruptions, notably affecting travel plans.
  • Recent reports show that more than 110 flights at the Delhi Airport were delayed due to poor visibility conditions caused by the fog.
  • Additionally, two SpiceJet flights were diverted at the Delhi airport on Wednesday morning due to adverse weather conditions.
  • Around 30 flights, including both domestic and international routes, faced delays on Tuesday due to the fog. In response, the Delhi Airport issued a warning for all passengers.
While landing and take-offs continue at Delhi airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected. Passengers requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted

25 trains delayed 

  • Not only air travel but also railway services were impacted by the fog.

  • At least 25 trains arriving or departing from Delhi's Railway Station faced delays.

Fatal accidents 

6-Vehicle Pileup on Agra-Lucknow Expressway

On Wednesday morning, a significant accident occurred near Unnao on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, resulting in one fatality and over two dozen injuries, as reported by India Today.

  • A series of collisions ensued involving six vehicles after a double-decker bus lost control in low visibility, striking the central divider.

  • This initial collision triggered multiple rear-end crashes involving other vehicles.

  • Tragically, one passenger lost their life at the scene, while around 24 others sustained severe injuries and were promptly taken to the nearest hospital.

Multiple-vehicle collision on Yamuna Expressway

Another incident involved 12 vehicles colliding on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida amid dense fog and extremely poor visibility early Wednesday (November 27) morning.

The incident occurred near Dayanatpur village within the jurisdiction of the Jewar police station in Gautam Buddha Nagar.

No casualties were reported.
