Recently, a video went viral on the internet showcasing a Sikh man and his coworker defending their California 7-Eleven store from a robber by striking the assailant with a stick.
However, they are now facing a police investigation for potential assault charges stemming from the incident.
A video recently captured widespread attention online, featuring a courageous 7-Eleven owner in California who confronted a knife-wielding thief. The footage, filmed from behind the store counter, depicts the audacious attempt of the thief to steal an entire display of cigarettes.
The store owner, identified as a Sikh individual, intervenes boldly and urges the thief to halt his actions, earning praise from online viewers.

Despite numerous pleas, the thief persists in his robbery attempt, prompting the store owner to threaten to involve law enforcement.
When the suspect brandishes a knife and warns the owner to back off, the situation escalates.
In a subsequent turn of events, an employee tackles the thief as he attempts to flee with stolen items. At this point, the store owner employs what appears to be an elongated wooden rod to strike the thief.
The Stockton Police, responsible for investigating the incident, have initiated questioning of both the shop owner and his colleague on charges of assault. Reports from the news portal KCRA suggest that the alleged thief is suspected of having robbed the same store on two separate occasions within a 24-hour timeframe.
The police department has yet to provide clear details regarding the basis for investigating assault charges. "Thanks to a diligent witness who recorded the July 29 robbery and assault, the Stockton Police Department consolidated the investigations into the suspected robberies and assault," stated the police department.
Although the convenience store manager declined to comment on the investigation into assault charges, the police have confirmed awareness of two additional early morning robbery incidents at the same 7-Eleven store, both involving the same suspected thief, occurring on July 28 and July 29.
Initially, the internet was abuzz with praise for the owners of the California 7-Eleven where the incident took place. The video left users impressed, commending the Sikh shop owner for his swift handling of the situation and even lauding his actions.
However, news of the owners facing investigation for assault charges has ignited a wave of frustration among users. Many are vocally expressing their discontent with how the police department is handling the incident, perceiving the treatment of self-defense and protection of personal property as unjust.
