The Indian Army has conducted surgical strikes on terror launchpads across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan, causing significant casualties.
"The Army has conducted surgical strikes on terror launchpads on the LoC and significant casualties have been caused. The motive of this operation was to hit out at the terrorists who were planning to infiltrate into our territory," Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt-General Ranbir Singh said on Thursday in a joint press conference with officials from the ministry of external affairs.
He added: "I spoke to the Pakistan DGMO and shared our concerns. I told him we conducted surgical strikes last night."
The Pakistani Army admitted that two of its soldiers were killed in an exchange of fire with Indian forces across the LoC in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
India responded to unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan on the LOC with punitive strikes early on Thursday. Two Pakistani soldiers were shot dead.
"It has been a matter of serious concern that there has been many infiltration bids by terrorists at LoC," the DGMO said. Also that, captured terrorists from Pakistan or PoK confessed to training in the neighbouring country.
"Despite persistently urging Pakistan to not allow territory under its control to be used for terrorist activities, nothing was done," the DGMO said.
According to Lt-Gen Singh, the Indian Army does not plan to continue with the strikes but the forces are ready for any contingency.
