Juvenile Justice Bill is designed to stop a problem by creating another
The Juvenile Justice Bill has been passed in the Rajya Sabha and there isn't much that we can do about it except lament this terrible harsh punishment designed to stop a problem by creating another.
The consequence of passing such a bill will have severe impact on the society, in the sense that it will endanger the future of our children. The juveniles will be from among our children.
The passing of this Bill sends a message not to the younger generation, but to older members of the society by enabling them with a tool to harass their family and relatives as an act of vengeance.
Under the amendments to the Bill, children will be hauled to police stations and courts for the adult crime of statutory rape.
Consensual sex will be termed as rape in case the girl is under 18. I am particularly disappointed with Derek O' Brien for taking the matter to the Rajya Sabha and hurriedly getting it passed.
