Modi not the only one: Even Nehru faced UK protest during 1949 visit

Ahead of PM Modi's historic visit to the UK, human rights activists and socio-religious forums are staging protests against PM's entry to the English land. Protests in many forms, especially the massive light projection on the Houses of Parliament showing Narendra Modi with sword in one hand and a shield with the "Om" turning into Swastika symbol, astounded everyone. Spearheading the protest, Awaz network, has also been planning to stage protest outside Wembley stadium where PM Modi is due to address more than 60,000 people on November 13.

During PM Modi's second visit to the US recently, another activists group called Alliance for Justice and Accountability (AJA) had sent Facebook CEO and founder, Mark Zuckerberg , boxes full of hand-sanitizers, with a message "Zuck, wash your hands, to help remove bloodstains left behind from shaking hands with Narendra Modi".

But it isn't just Modi, who faces regular boycott on foreign lands. In fact, India's first PM Jawaharlal Nehru saw activists with placards reading "Pandit Nehru, remove inhuman securities acts" during his visit to the UK in 1949. In an undated video by British Pathe, Nehru while posing for pictures, gets welcomed with a car full of activists. "Stop shooting and tear gassing the people. Use fresh election on adult franchise at once" read a poster on the car. Though the protest wasn't that big and activists were shooed away by policemen, this archival video shows how Nehru encountered protest against him during his visit to the UK in 1949.
