In conditional relief for Nestlé India, the Bombay High Court on Thursday removed the six-month ban on the company's flagship Maggi noodles. The court said the famous noodle brand must be tested again before it goes on sale.
Incidentally, the Supreme Court is also likely to hear on Friday a petition filed by the government which has sought Rs 640 crore as damage from the Swiss company accused of unfair trade practices with regard to Maggi. Nestle has said the suit is a disappointment the matter of Maggi ban was sub-judice.
Nestle also said, "We confirm that we do not add Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) in the manufacture of Maggi noodles." The company further added that MSG is one of several forms of glutamic acid found in natural foods such as groundnuts/peanuts, wheat flour, tomatoes and cheese.
"As we use some of these ingredients in Maggi noodles, the product will contain natural glutamic acid. We therefore strongly reiterate that the 'No Added MSG' statement on the product was not an attempt to mislead consumers."
