By cancelling Rampal's bail in a 2006 murder case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ensured that the self-styled godman will be in custody and not in his Satlok Ashram where his private army was engaged in a combat with the police. These 2000 commandos are a threat to public order and must also be brought to book.

Why does MoS Sanjeev Balyan support the khap ban on Facebook and WhatsApp?

In a meeting of 18 khaps in Muzaffarnagar, girls have been banned from using Facebook and WhatsApp. What is even more shameful is that this ban is being supported by Muzaffarnagar MP and Union Minister of State for Agriculture Sanjeev Balyan. As Balyan was made minister despite being accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots, it is hardly surprising to hear khap representatives say that "when it comes to defending our community, we don't need to fear any authority."

Bengaluru authorities must ensure safety of people from the North East

A 21-year-old youth from Manipur was assaulted on Wednesday night in Bengaluru. His only fault was that he confronted a group of eve-teasers. Last month, another young Manipuri was attacked for not speaking Kannada. It is evident that people from the North East have become targets of hate crimes in Bengaluru and the authorities must act if they want the city to preserve its diverse character.
