Why Subramanian Swamy's microphone makes Congress tremble

It's been three days since nominated member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha, Subramanian Swamy took oath in the House. Since then he has become the agent provocateur in the Upper House.

On April 29, Congress MPs Kumari Selja and Jairam Ramesh asked the deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha why Swamy's microphone was on when the deputy chairman was speaking.

The incident took place when Swamy gave a privilege motion against the leader of Opposition, Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Alleging that Azad gave incorrect information about de-rostering AgustaWestland by the UPA government. This drew a sharp reaction from the Congress side. Even when the deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha was asking both sides to hold their fire, utter aces were coming from Swamy.

This prompted Congress MP Kumari Selja to ask as to why Swamy's microphone was on. She was joined by her colleague, Jairam Ramesh who also wanted to know the same. The deputy chairman replied that Swamy was talking to him before the ruckus began and that was why the microphone was on.

Switching off the microphone is a sensitive topic for the Opposition.

In the previous sessions, the Congress has alleged that whenever their time comes to speak, their microphones are switched off. They have also met the speaker of the Lok Sabha in this regard.

Earlier the Congress had alleged that the switching off happens at the insistence of the government. The government has vehemently denied these charges.

In the three days of his being an MP, Subramanium Swamy has made the Congress see red. First he took the name of Congress president Sonia Gandhi which saw the entire party leaders in the well of the House.

Then he challenged the expulsion of his utterances in the House, and thirdly, he brought in a privilege notice against the leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad.Swamy shares a nasty relationship with Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. Somebody who he has publicly vowed to send to jail.

In mid-2014, Swamy approached the court against the Gandhis, accusing them of using the money of National Herald for their personal interests. The case still goes on and both the Gandhis have been to court for it.

On social media and Twitter, he employs certain names when referring to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.

Though there was some initial reservation within the BJP camp to have Swamy in Rajya Sabha, it is a clear indication that the party wants to slight the Gandhis in Parliament

The last three days have been action-packed, thanks to Swamy. It would be certainly more interesting to watch out for the remaining two weeks of this Parliament session.
