Ukraine-Russia War LIVE updates: Non-stop shelling in Kharkiv on Day 7

The Ukraine-Russia War has brought the world on edge. It’s Day 7 of the fighting and so far, the Ukrainian forces have stood their ground; the capital city Kyiv has not yet fallen. But intense battle continues in Ukraine’s second largest city, where an Indian student was killed in shelling, and now Russian paratroopers were reported to have attacked a hospital.

Representatives from Ukraine and Russia are set to hold a second round of talks to de-escalate the situation.

On the other hand, the Indian government is facilitating the safe return of its nationals. But congested border crossing has made evacuations more difficult than before. The evacuation route from Moldova has also been opened up for Indian nationals.

Here are the latest updates on the developing story:

'LEAVE KHARKIV IMMEDIATELY'

Indian nationals in Ukraine have been asked to leave Kharkiv immediately due to deteriorating situations in the city.  

22-YEAR-OLD INDIAN STUDENT DIES OF STROKE

A 22-year-old Indian student hailing from Punjab, Chandan Jindal, died of a stroke in Ukraine. He was admitted to ICU a month earlier after suffering from Ischemia stroke in the brain. This is second such death among Indian nationals in Ukraine in two days. Earlier, an Indian student hailing from Karnataka had died during shelling in Kharkiv city.    

RUSSIA SAYS WW III WILL INVOLVE NUCLEAR WEAPONS

Russia's Foreign Minister said that if World War III happens it will involve nuclear weapons.  

ALEXEI NAVALNY ASKS RUSSIANS TO PROTEST

Putin critic Alexei Navalny asked Russians to stage daily protests against Moscow for invading Ukraine.

UKRAINE EVACUATION POLL PITCH IN UTTAR PRADESH

Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a rally in Uttar Pradesh said that India is able to safely evacuate its stranded nationals from Ukraine due to the country's rising strength. 

SPAIN TO SEND MILITARY AID TO UKRAINE

Spanish Prime Minister announced that they will be sending 'military hardware' to help Ukraine defend its sovereignty from Russian invasion. 

‘AVOID SHEHYNI-MEDYKA BORDER’

The Indian government is advising its nationals stranded in Ukraine to avoid the Shehyni-Medyka border to reach Poland as it remains congested with long queues of refugees. Instead, the government has advised its nationals to reach the Budomierz border for Poland transit.

MOLDOVA BORDER OPENED FOR INDIANS

Moldova, a country bordering in the south of Ukraine, has opened its borders for Indian nationals fleeing war. The Indian government is making arrangements for the evacuation of Indian nationals through Bucharest.

US SHUTS AIRSPACE TO RUSSIA

The US shut its airspace to all Russian flights and aircraft saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions in Ukraine were unprovoked and premeditated.

FLIGHT ROUTES BETWEEN INDIA-US AFFECTED

United Airlines announced that it will stop using the Russian airspace, becoming the last major US passenger carrier to withdraw from the country’s airspace. However, this decision is set to impact United Airlines’ flight routes to and from India. It is not yet clear whether the flights to Mumbai and New Delhi by United Airlines will be suspended.

FIGHTING ON IN KHARKIV

An intense fight is underway between Ukrainian and Russian forces in Kharkiv. Ukrainian Army also claimed that Russian paratroops landed from a plane and attacked a local hospital.

A UKRAINIAN CITY FALLS

Ukrainian city Kherson has reportedly fallen to the Russian troops. However, there is no official confirmation from the local authorities on this.

KILLED INDIAN STUDENT’S BROTHER SPEAKS OUT

Harsha, the brother of the Indian student Naveen Shekharappa killed in Ukraine, said that the government should give more preference to evacuating Indian nationals who are still alive in Ukraine, rather than trying to bring back the mortal remains of his brother, Indian Express reported. 

RUSSIAN MISSILE STRIKES KYIV TV TOWER

Russian forces struck Kyiv TV tower, killing at least 5 people. Ukraine Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that the action is reminiscent of Nazi terror when in 1941 they killed hundreds of thousands of Jews in the place, Babyn Yar, where the TV tower is located.
